The Automated People Mover (APM) will carry passengers to and from the new high-speed rail station in Solihull and is valued at £150 million.

It will provide a link between HS2’s Interchange Station, the conventional rail network, Birmingham Airport, and the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and Resorts World.

Intersections and major crossing points will include sites at the M42 motorway, the West Coast Mainline, and Pendigo Lake.

The successful contractor will be tasked with the detailed design and delivery of the reinforced central concrete piers, viaducts with both single and twin tracks, the APM’s four stops and platforms, a maintenance facility, as well as all temporary works.

A formal procurement process is expected in early 2026. HS2 Limited hopes to award the contract in 2028, with construction, system installation and testing to be carried out between 2028 and 2030.

The deadline to complete the survey is 23 April at 5pm.

Andrew Cubitt, procurement and supply chain director for HS2 Limited, said: “Today (8 April) we’re launching our two-week market engagement exercise, which enables potential suppliers to familiarise themselves with the very latest details for the APM infrastructure contract.

“Importantly, this is a two-way dialogue, a chance for us to listen and learn from those interested in bidding for the works, so we can define the scope, commercial approach and procurement strategy.”
