Canadian design and engineering firm Stantec has acquired UK counterpart Hydrock for an undisclosed sum.
The deal increases Stantec’s workforce in the UK by more than 30 per cent, while bolstering its offering to the energy, buildings, and infrastructure sectors, as well as the wider built environment.
“We look forward to welcoming the Hydrock team to Stantec,” said Gord Johnston, Stantec’s president and CEO.
“When combined with the strategic acquisitions of ZETCON and Morrison Hershfield, we will have grown our global workforce by over 2,700 people within the first four months of 2024, further strengthening our offering in line with market demands.”
Founded in 1995, Bristol-headquartered Hydrock has a nationwide presence with 22 UK locations and 950 staff.
It provides fire safety, energy and sustainability, civil and structural, MEP, transport, environmental, and geotechnical services to both the public and private sectors.
Last year the business achieved turnover of nearly £70 million, generating a pre-tax profit of £4.8 million.
Stantec has been expanding its presence in the UK since 2016, previously acquiring MWH, ESI, Peter Brett Associates, and Barton Willmore.
The company now has more than 30,000 people working from more than 450 offices worldwide.
Cath Schefer, Stantec’s executive vice president and COO at Global, added: “Hydrock provides us with a highly complementary line of services and expertise which only reinforces our UK offering.
“Our combined experience, knowledge, and creativity, as well as our shared commitment to create better, more liveable places for people and communities, puts us in an exceptional position to deliver meaningful value for our industry-leading clients.”
