editor

National Grid has named the first seven delivery partners for a series of major infrastructure projects across England and Wales.

The suppliers are tasked with the design and construction of nine Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) schemes, as part of the energy provider’s Great Grid Upgrade.

New electricity network infrastructure will be constructed to reduce UK reliance on fossil fuels by connecting 50 GW of offshore wind by 2030.

The Great Grid Partnership includes Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Morrison Energy Services, Murphy, and Omexom/Taylor Woodrow (OTW) as construction partners.

WSP and an AECOM-Arup joint venture have been appointed as design and consenting service partners.

Contractors will pool resources to deliver the nine major projects faster and more economically.

The partnership is also part of a wider supply chain framework valued at £9 billion which will support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.
