Liz Baldwin has transitioned from her role at consulting engineer Mott MacDonald to lead the Southern region’s renewals portfolio for the next decade at Network Rail.

Formerly serving as Managing Director of Mott MacDonald’s Highways and Intelligent Transport Systems division, Baldwin now assumes the role within Network Rail’s Southern Integrated Delivery project (SID). This initiative forms a crucial part of the Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE), a fresh operational model implemented across Network Rail’s Southern region at the outset of Control Period 7 (CP7) in April 2024.

Its primary objective is to efficiently manage the £9 billion renewals portfolio spanning from 2024 to 2034.

The SID partnership includes VolkerFitzpatrick, VolkerRail, Octavius, AtkinsRéalis, and Network Rail.

In a groundbreaking move for the railway sector, Network Rail’s Southern region has adopted the SRE model, based on the principles of Project 13 by the Institution of Civil Engineers. This collaborative approach aims to enhance long-term planning and effectiveness.

I’m thrilled to join the team and assume the role of SID director within the SRE framework. This presents an incredible opportunity to revolutionize the efficiency and safety of our renewals delivery across the region through enhanced collaboration” Liz stated.

Ellie Burrows, Managing Director for Network Rail’s Southern region, said “I’m delighted to have Liz join the team. A huge amount of effort has gone into building the Southern Renewals Enterprise, and I’m excited that Liz will be supporting us to deliver this new and radical approach – the first of its kind in the industry. She’ll be central to making the Southern Integrated Delivery a reality. Her role is hugely important for this new phase of CP7, so we can deliver the best for the communities we serve and make the Southern region a great place to work
