Fitzgerald, who led the London developer for almost 20 years, will join the company as interim MD for the South London region on 8 April.

He will head up Vistry’s Stratford-based operations being delivered in partnership with local authority and housing association partners.

Vistry’s South London region (which typically operates through the Countryside Partnerships brand) is currently working on nine projects, delivering more than 3,000 homes.

The company recently reported increased turnover and profit, following its restructure towards a partnerships-focused business model last year.

Fitzgerald will be in his interim role until at least January 2025, when a permanent MD for the region will be announced.

He said: “The opportunity to head up Vistry’s South London region was too good to miss, and I am delighted to be returning to the housebuilding sector to lead a business unit with such an impressive partnerships portfolio at a time when the London market is on the up.

“I am keen to hit the ground running and continue Vistry’s track record of delivering much-needed affordable homes for the communities of South London.”

Mike Woolliscroft, group business improvement director and London division chairman, Countryside Partnerships, added: “We are thrilled John is joining the Vistry business. His passion for quality, transformative regeneration projects and effective long-term partnerships aligns directly with our, and his experience puts him in a strong position to continue to increase the supply of much-needed homes for London.”
