Redevelopment of Site A, at Church Street, near Edgware Road, will initially provide 429 new homes, at least 50 per cent of which will be affordable, and is valued at around £275 million.

A new library and library garden, public realm and improved market infrastructure are also planned.

The wider redevelopment of the 1960s Church Street estate, including sites B and C, will see up to 1,120 new homes built alongside new public realm, roads and pedestrianised routes, retail and commercial space, and associated infrastructure.

Planning for the three sites was awarded in June 2023, following 73 per cent of residents voting in favour of the proposals.

The major scheme is part of the council’s Fairer Westminster vision, to ensure local housing needs are met.

Cabinet member for regeneration and renters, Matt Noble, said: “We’ve set out on our pledge to deliver a Fairer Westminster by our plans to improve the Church Street neighbourhood and to create new opportunities for local people.

“Moving forward in a joint venture partnership means we can now take a further step towards realising this ambition on Site A.

“From building more of the affordable homes the City desperately needs to enhancing the public spaces and services which are vital for our communities, residents will continue to remain at the centre of the changes as work continues.”
