Former Balfour director joins M Group

M Group Services has appointed a new managing director for its Water Division.

Chartered civil engineer, Iain Sutherland, joins from Balfour Beatty where he was highways director and worked for nearly seven years.  

Sutherland has spent more than 30 years in the water and highways industries. 

He most recently worked as a project director on Balfour’s Lower Thames Crossing project. 

He was previously also water and waste sector director for Morgan Sindall. 

Now at M Group, Sutherland aims to strengthen the technical capabilities across the Water Division’s four operating businesses – Morrison Water Services, PMP Utilities, ID Systems and Z-Tech.  

He said: “To enhance our ability to offer our clients integrated solutions that meet their needs today and into the future, I have already aligned the Division’s MEICAT capability. I believe this is a fundamental step towards our effectiveness for our clients and our future business growth.” 

Sutherland will also support M Group Services’ aim of reaching is sustainability target of being net zero by 2050. 

He said: “It’s vital we ensure that everyone – our people, our clients and others – can go home to their family and friends safely at the end of each day. I will be relentless in my focus on this. 

“Our people are at the heart of delivering for our clients and for the planet. That’s why I’ve made it a priority in my first few weeks to visit teams in Scotland, Preston and Cambridge.  

“I have been really impressed with what I’ve seen and heard, and I look forward to continuing to meet my new colleagues over coming months.”
