In addition to chairman designate, Tyler will assume a non-executive directorship and membership of Grafton’s nomination committee from 1 March.

He will succeed Michael Roney as chairman, who will step down on 2 May having held the position since January 2017.

Tyler, a chartered accountant by training, was previously chairman of Amey UK, Vistry Group, and Cairn Energy (now Capricorn).

He joined Balfour Beatty in 1996 as a finance director, was appointed group finance director in 1999, chief operating officer in 2002, and chief executive in 2005, a role he held until 2013.

Prior to joining Balfour Beatty, Tyler was also financial controller of Hanson.

He will step down from his current role as chairman of Affinity Water once a successor has been appointed.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining the board of Grafton at this stage in its development and look forward to working with the board and Mr Eric Born, CEO.

“I was attracted to the role of chair because of the group’s portfolio of high quality, high returning businesses, its excellent financial position and the prospect of increasing shareholder value over the coming years.”
