Steve Mogford and Amanda Fisher will be members of the company’s audit, nomination and remuneration committees.

Fisher was CEO of Amey from 2019 until 2022, during which time she restructured the business and improved contract risk and performance prior to its sale.

Before Amey, Fisher held two managing director positions at Balfour Beatty, and a senior management role at construction firm Alfred McAlpine.

Mogford has expertise in water, defence and complex joint ventures. He was CEO of United Utilities from 2011 until March this year.

He also held various senior positions during his 30 years at BAE Systems before being appointed COO and a member of the board.

Mogford is senior independent director of aircraft engineering company QinetiQ Group and previously held the same role at security company G4S.

Mogford and Fisher join Costain’s board on 1 November and 1 December respectively.

Current non-executive directors Jacqueline de Rojas and Neil Crockett will step down on 31 October.

“The board is delighted to welcome Steve and Amanda to Costain,” said Kate Rock, chairperson. “Both bring a wealth of experience in key markets, including energy, water, highways, and rail.

“They have driven improved profitability and increased market share, and I look forward to working with them to support the growth we expect in Costain’s operating profit and margins.”

Adding: “I would like to thank Jacqueline and Neil for their considerable contributions to Costain and guidance to the board over the course of their tenures. Both have provided significant advice and insight, supporting the Group’s strategy for growth.”
