Aston Villa has submitted a new planning application for Villa Park stadium, months after it won permission to expand and develop the venue to the tune of £100 million.
Earlier this year, Birmingham City Council approved plans by the Club which aim to increase stadium capacity from 42,785 to more than 50,000.
Phase One of the scheme included a new North Stand, enhancements to Trinity Stand and creation of “Villa Live”, a 6,500 sqm multi-purpose commercial space, replacing the club shop and academy building.
More than 7,000 sqm of new public realm at the Witton Lane entrance was also to be created.
However, a “series of amendments” have been submitted as part of a “revised and new application” to the council.
And, while scant in detail, the Club revealed there are now “new plans” for the academy building, and “minor changes” to the North Stand.
It also wants to improve how visitors arrive at and depart from Villa Park – and had previously said it was working on a feasibility study to upgrade Witton Station to deal with increased visitation to Villa Park, Aston Hall and Aston Park.
“The Club [is] working closely with the West Midlands Combined Authority, West Midlands Rail Executive and Birmingham City Council to finalise a plan for the station,” it said.
And although it is understood a main contractor is yet to be announced, potential bidders “could include” Buckingham, McLaren, and McLaughlin & Harvey, according to Building Design.

WMCA is commissioning a technical design study to unlock funding for the proposed upgrades.
Villa Park was recently selected as a venue in the UK and Ireland’s bid to host the UEFA Euro 2028 Championship, with a decision expected in October.
The Club hopes the redevelopment will enable it to host major international sports tournaments.
The outcome of this revised application is expected during the Autumn, which could affect works beginning later this year, as previously reported.
