The Hampshire firm exceeded £100 million turnover for the first time in its history.

It also recorded a gross operating margin of 9.2% in its financial results for the year ended 31 March 2023.

Knights Brown reported an operating profit of £2.1 million.

Its £100 million turnover milestone builds on a revenue of £89 million in the previous year.

It said the report represents “a strong return to form” following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the construction industry.

Managing director, Kevin Valentine, said it had been an ambition of the firm for several years.

Knights Brown’s portfolio includes ports, coastal engineering, energy, local government infrastructure, water utilities and industrial buildings.

In May, Knights Brown finished construction of a 250m deep-water berth at Portland Port in Dorset, having been appointed as managing contractor last year.

The privately-owned commercial operation received between £25 million to £26 million backing from HSBC, it is understood.

The scheme, started in October 2022, involved rebuilding a deep-water berth to enable accommodation of up to two 350m ocean liners simultaneously.

Knights Brown came in under a rigorous six-month programme deadline.

“Our focus is on establishing a sound financial footing that will support long-term growth and create opportunities for our people to enjoy exciting and fulfilling careers,” said Valentine.

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to break through the £100m barrier, which has been an ambition for several years. It speaks of the hard work undertaken by our teams and the ambition we all have for the success of our business.”
