The FM services will be delivered by Kier Places as part of the ACORN consortium and will commence in April 2027 for a period of 25 years.

The remit includes:

  • Mechanical & Electrical (M&E)
  • Building fabric services
  • Contract management reporting
  • Health & Safety

Other services include fire systems and reactive maintenance, energy management, drainage systems, and digital management.

The cancer centre is part of Velindre University NHS Trust’s Transforming Cancer Services in South East Wales Programme, procured under the Welsh Government Mutual Investment Model.

It is designed to be all-electric and is targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

The ACORN consortium was appointed by the Trust and includes RSK, Sacyr, Hydrock, AECOM, Kier Facilities Services and others.

“The Velindre Cancer Centre is already a vital healthcare facility in Wales,” said Paul Jones, operations director for Kier Places. “To be part of the consortium which is developing a new state-of-the-art facility to extend these services to even more cancer patients, and with such a focus on innovation and environmental impact, is a real privilege and we’re delighted to be on board.”
