Inside the deal: The contractor was appointed to the multi-million-pound project by the property development company, S Harrison.

S Harrison agreed a forward-funding deal with Singapore-headquartered Q Investment Partners (QIP) to deliver the scheme, earlier this year, along with a PBSA development in the city’s Canongate, which is to be completed in 2026.

Work is set to start this month with the development taking place on East Newington Place in Scotland’s capital.

The development saw a disused commercial unit demolished before the construction of a modern, energy-efficient four-storey building.

The accommodation is expected to feature 65 studio rooms, as well as:

  • Multimedia room
  • Gym
  • Breakout space
  • Cycle storage
  • Open courtyard

The development will focus on sustainability with air source heat rather than the use of gas, giving it an EPC of A.

Thomas Johnstone regional construction director, Gordon Cameron, said: “With several high quality PBSA schemes in our portfolio, a wealth of experience throughout our 156 years of delivering excellence, and an established supply chain in the local area, this contract plays to our strengths and we’re excited to get started.
