Inside the deal: Aviva Investors appointed the contractor to deliver the Sidney Sussex building at the 250-acre Chesterford Research Park to meet burgeoning demand in the area.

The job is for a multiple occupancy, fully fitted laboratory and office building spanning 60,000 sq. ft over three storeys.

Designed by local firm BCR Infinity Architects, the facility will offer flexible suites ranging from 2,226 sq. ft to 8,409 sq. ft, as well as open plan write-up/admin areas, benching, lifts, storage rooms, and shower facilities, centred around a communal atrium with reception area.

Renewable energy sources, efficient structural design, and daylighting strategies will be included to minimise carbon emissions.

Chesterford Research Park, a hub for biotechnology company Arecor and pharma giant AstraZeneca, is co-owned by Aviva Investors and Uttlesford District Council who were advised by Savills and Cheffins.

Project completion is anticipated by October next year.

The news follows Stuart Cowan being promoted to operations director at the Hertfordshire-headquartered firm, where he has worked for almost six years.

Glencar CEO, Eddie McGillycuddy, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be part of Chesterford’s ambitious expansion plans.

“This project is not only a testament to our growing expertise in life sciences construction but also a significant addition to our portfolio, following other successful projects we have delivered and are delivering currently at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus.”

Julian Cobourne, head of regional investment management at Aviva Investors, added: “We are pleased to continue progress in the creation of the Sidney Sussex Building, which will significantly enhance the breadth and depth of facilities at Chesterford Research Park.”
