The contractor will deliver Phase One of the “Our Future Hospital” project on behalf of Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The hospital estate is more than 50 years old and has received little to no investment during that time, said Chris Tidman, deputy chief executive and senior responsible officer (SRO) of the Our Future Hospital programme.

Last year, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) revealed North Devon District Hospital was one of 42 hospitals in England with evidence of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC).

The initial redevelopment of staff accommodation facilities on site will unlock development of new clinical buildings at the hospital under the programme’s second phase.

The redevelopment is part of the UK Government’s New Hospital Programme.

Tim Chell, BAM regional director, said: “We are delighted to be working on this exciting new project at North Devon Hospital.

“Not only will the new accommodation provide much needed facilities for the hospital, but our local team and local subcontractors will give a real economic boost to the North Devon economy.”
