Sisk has confirmed a major deal with Manchester City Football Club (MCFC) to deliver the £300 million expansion of Etihad Stadium.

The contractor said it had recently signed a contract with the club to extend the North Stand and increase spectator capacity to more than 60,000, with one larger, single upper tier above the existing lower tier.

It follows reports last year Laing O’Rourke, the original builder of the stadium, had also been in line for the next phase of works.

It is understood preliminary talks between the club and Laing O’Rourke did take place – however they were not taken any further.

Sisk said its “top tier ambition” was now “in full flow” at the stadium, adding phase one of steel works had commenced on the North Stand.

Three out of four concrete cores for the new hotel have also been completed by the contractor, with four out of five tower cranes in situ.

Internal works will begin inside the stadium during the summer months, to mitigate disruption when the season restarts.

MCFC also wants to build an expanded and covered ‘City Square’ fan zone with capacity for 3,000, and food and drink outlets.

The club also has plans for a sky bar above the new upper tier, with views overlooking the pitch, and a stadium roof walk experience
