HBF managing director, Neil Jefferson, will take up the position of chief executive officer (CEO) from 1 July this year.

While Stewart Baseley, who has been executive chairman since 2006, will step back from executive duties to become chairman of the home building industry trade body.

Jefferson, a Chartered Builder, joined HBF in January 2020 from warranty provider NHBC, where he had worked for more than 20 years in various leadership roles and rose to the position of chief operating officer (COO).

He is also a non-executive director of Future Homes Hub, which HBF helped found in 2021.

And between 2008 and 2016, he was seconded from NHBC to the Zero Carbon Hub where he led the organisation as chief executive.

The move follows the promotion of David O’Leary and Steve Turner to executive directors last year.

Jefferson said: “Being promoted to chief executive of the Home Builders Federation at such a key time for the industry presents an incredible opportunity.

“I am hugely grateful for the support I have received from my colleagues, the Board and the wider industry since joining HBF.

“I am looking forward to the challenges ahead as we look to navigate the many complex issues we face and support HBF members to deliver the homes the country needs.”

Baseley added: “I am delighted that the Board has promoted Neil to be the new chief executive of HBF.

“I firmly believe he is the right person to lead the organisation for many years to come, and that now is the best time to make the transition such that HBF can best serve its members.”
