Michael Gove has ordered a public inquiry into its plan to demolish and then rebuild its Oxford Street location from the ground up the Guardian reports. M&S are disappointed at the decision after the scheme was granted full permission even though campaigners were not happy with the decision.

Why it matters: Campaigners claim the project will release 40,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere throughout the building process. Campaigners have got what they campaigned for and said that the response from M&S was “intemperate” and that it had been aggressive. Campaigners 1 – M&S 0.

Westminster City Council was also happy with the decision because they are “serious about reducing the environmental impact of new developments.
