This refurb includes many measures to improve energy efficiency including more than 1K solar roof panels, air-source heat pumps and full replacement of mechanical, engineering and plumbing (MEP).
Kier will start with the decarbonization then move on to the refurb and updating. The refurb will take in all floors, plus the pool’s filtration system, the addition of moveable floors for the pools. In addition, the changing rooms and gym will be reconfigured.
In order to ensure that users can still access the basement pool during all the works the updates will be made in phases over 2 ½ years.
Sean Fenner, regional director at Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: “Kier is committed to leaving lasting local legacies, and this project gives us the opportunity to give back to the communities we live and work in through the social value targets set across the duration of the refurbishment.
“These include procuring locally, with 55% of the project spend to be within the Manchester region, a 75% local labour charter and a pledge to create 15 new jobs throughout the duration of the project.”
