The deal marks Amey’s strategic return to the Australian market, underpinning its “international expansion strategy” and expertise in life-cycle engineering, operations, and decarbonisation solutions.

Brisbane-headquartered Premise, led by managing director Duane Gibson, serves both public and private sector clients within the built environment, water, environmental and renewables, and transport sectors.

Amey chief executive, Andy Milner, said the addition of Premise to Amey’s consulting business will bolster its technical expertise and capabilities in the UK and Australia, New Zealand and other target geographies.

Patrick Brady, chairman of Premise, said: “As part of a leading, well-supported and well-connected infrastructure organisation with the scale and vision to drive innovation, this partnership will supercharge our strategic growth plans.

“It better positions us to accelerate regional investment, unlock new opportunities, expand our expertise and deliver outstanding value for clients across Australia and beyond.”

Amey group revenue for the year ended 31 December 2024 was £1.87 billion, its first increase since £2 billion in 2022, resulting in a 31 per cent increase in pre-tax profits from £96.9 million in 2023 to £126.6 million.

Among its trading divisions, transport infrastructure returned the highest revenue of £1 billion, which was down slightly on 2023’s £1.1 billion. It included an estimated £261 million eight-year joint venture with its public transport operator business, KeolisAmey alongside Transport for London, to continue running the Dockland Light Rail.

The London-headquartered infrastructure engineering contractor delivered an overall operating profit of £139.8 million last year, up from £87 million in FY2023.

Its order book value also increased to £7.8 billion (FY2023: £7.6 billion), with secured work on long-term contracts as far as 2038.

Speaking about this latest acquisition, Colin Wood, managing director of Amey’s consulting business, said: “With its breadth of skill in the built environment, water, environmental & renewables and transport sectors, Premise will significantly strengthen and expand Amey’s consulting capabilities and open up new opportunities in Australia.

“This is a substantial step in Amey’s journey to put consulting at the heart of its growth strategy. We now have a fantastic opportunity to accelerate our expansion and the benefits we can bring to clients.”
