Stelling Properties, a modular housing specialist, has committed more than £3 million in residential module production to tackle the “growing emergency housing crisis”, it said.

The company’s new initiative aims to provide immediate relief to local authorities and housing associations grappling with unprecedented demand for emergency accommodation.
Recent government data reveals increasing levels of homelessness, with 127,890 households living in temporary accommodation, including 165,510 children.
Notably, 43,110 households have been placed in expensive, nightly-paid options like B&Bs and hotels – an increase of 47 per cent over the past year – adding significant financial strain to local housing providers.
As homelessness continues to rise, projections by housing justice charity, Shelter suggest the cost of temporary accommodation could increase by 71 per cent to £3.9 billion by 2029.
Stelling’s investment in pre-manufactured, steel-framed residential modules aims to address these challenges head-on while providing flexible, sustainable housing options for the future.
José Ignacio Alvarez, founder and executive chairman at Stelling Properties, emphasised the importance of providing homes, such as these which can be turned around within weeks, quickly.
“Local authorities are under immense pressure, and the current temporary housing solutions are unsustainable,” he said.
“Our modular units offer a rapid, high-quality alternative that alleviates the strain on public budgets while improving living conditions for those in need.”
The new foray into the emergency housing sector, will support the government as it puts into practice mandatory housing targets for all councils in England to meet Labour’s pledge of 1.5 million homes by 2029.
Other companies who are helping tackle the emergency housing crisis, include Morgan Sindall who broke ground in January on two hostels in the London Borough of Camden to house people who do not have a permanent home.
The government has also made a £39 billion investment pledge from the spending review for a new 10-year affordable homes programme.
