Quantum expert, Ian Brant has formally taken over as chairman of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) from town planner and urban designer, Wei Yang, for a two-year term.

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) fellow, Brant, joined the CIC as deputy chairman in February 2024 and was announced as chairman at its council meeting this week.
Succeeding Dr Yang, Brant’s two-year role starts immediately, with his predecessor now taking up the deputy chairperson position for a year.
Brant, who currently works as a director at Brant Associates, specialising in commercial and contractual support, dispute resolution, and expert witness services, has been a chairman for several construction industry bodies, including the CIOB where he was trustee and chair of the investigations panel, as well as the Forum for the Built Environment.
He has also previously worked at Vinci and Fitzpatrick as a quantity surveyor.
He now regularly acts as a quantum expert in legal proceedings and contributes to live projects as a professional quantity surveyor.
On taking up this role, Brant said: “As a fellow of the CIOB, my career has been grounded in collaboration, professionalism and integrity across the built environment.
“The CIC brings together the collective voice of our diverse members at a time when our industry faces both great challenges and opportunity.
“I’m committed to driving progress through shared values, innovation and inclusion.”
This includes continuing his passion for improving mental health across the built environment sector as part of the role which he said underpinned productivity and resilience within the workforce.
On leaving the post after two years, Dr Yang said her time as chairperson had been defined by collaboration, reform, and strategic action aimed at helping the industry respond to pressing societal and environmental challenges.
