Laing O’Rourke hires former Babcock operations chief

Laing O’Rourke has announced two new appointments to its Australia business.

Rod Aves has joined Laing O’Rourke from Babcock International Group in the UK where he was operations director – major infrastructure projects, now taking up the role of programme director – AUKUS. 

Aves has an extensive background in global nuclear new build projects, including his most recent post where he led infrastructure delivery at Devonport Royal Dockyard to enable full lifecycle maintenance of the UK Astute class submarines. 

He has also held nuclear licensee appointments in both Civil and Defence sectors. 

Glen Billington has been appointed general manager – Defence after a career with the Australian Army before transitioning to the Army Reserve. 

Billington worked on the planning and delivery of various defence facilities, including the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.  

He also has experience in policy, planning and delivery of capital works projects in the UK, Middle East, Pacific Region, and Australia.  

Both appointments will support Australia’s National Defence Strategy and infrastructure.
