Story Scotland managing director (MD), John MacArthur, will be supported during the restructure by Craig Lafferty, MD of the newly formed Transportation business, and Alan Boyle, who leads the Energy division, launched earlier this year.

“We see significant investment in these areas over the next decade, so it’s important that our business model is adapted in a way that allows us to respond to the challenges and opportunities this will bring,” said MacArthur.

“Having two distinct divisions brings ownership and accountability, enabling us to build stronger, more collaborative relationships with our clients.”

The Transportation division already has around 40 projects lined up for the next 12 months under Network Rail’s CP7 framework and is forecast to generate sales of up £80 million in that time, with plans to scale up to more than £100 million annually within five years.

To support this growth, Story Scotland will expand its workforce and supply chain, investing in skills and talent development.

Lafferty has 27 years of construction experience, having worked on projects worth up to £450 million across rail, nuclear, marine, highways, and petrochemical sectors.

To further strengthen its leadership team, Story appointed 35-year industry veteran Campbell Connor as commercial director in 2024.

“The next 12 months promise to be incredibly exciting as we embark on delivering crucial infrastructure across a variety of engineering sectors,” said Lafferty.

Story said: “With a clear vision for growth and talent development, Story Scotland’s Transportation division is set to play a key role in shaping Scotland’s infrastructure landscape.

“By embracing new opportunities and maintaining a strong focus on professional delivery that creates value for clients, the company is well-positioned to support the country’s evolving transportation needs while continuing to create an exciting and rewarding workplace culture.”
