The Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) has appointed Richard Linstead as CEO, with incumbent chief executive James Fiske appointed to the new role of executive director.

Linstead, who has been with the business for two years as chief product and technology officer, brings more than 25 years’ experience in leading product, commercial and technology across fintech, media and professional services.
Under Fiske’s leadership BCIS has grown annual recurring revenue by 100 per cent in under three years since it separated from RICS in 2022 with the support of investor LDC.
His decision to move into a newly formed executive director role will enable Fiske to continue to develop BCIS’ relationships in built environment data and advocate for the role data plays in decarbonisation.
BCIS chairman Colin Smith said: “James has led BCIS through an ambitious growth phase, delivering improvements in market penetration, customer experience, thought leadership and developing the BCIS culture as a standalone business.
“We are grateful for his continued commitment to the strategic development of the business in the years ahead.
“Richard’s drive has already made a significant difference to BCIS since he joined in 2023, and his appointment as CEO positions the organisation for future growth as it continues to deliver high-quality data and technology solutions to its customers.”
Linstead said: “BCIS occupies a special place within the UK built environment ecosystem.
“It’s an organisation with a rich heritage, built on data integrity and deep contextual expertise – and a focus on supporting the whole industry to grow.
“I’m looking forward to leading this exceptional team in evolving our existing platforms and services, while developing innovative new data products and tools to further improve the user experience and offering for our customers.”
