editor

Engineering services specialist Ipsum has acquired Middlesborough-headquartered high voltage experts Matrix Power for an undisclosed sum.

Ipsum CEO, Andrew Cowan, said the deal will allow Ipsum to expand its Power business in the north east of England and improve its availability in Scotland.

Ipsum is a provider of engineering services to the Power, Water, Infrastructure and Telecoms sectors, working with customers across regulated and non-regulated environments.

It also provides electrical, mechanical, health & safety training and assessments to the Power sector.

The acquisition of Matrix Power and its dedicated in-house workforce will build on existing capabilities in high voltage electrical power systems including design, equipment installation, cable installation and jointing, commissioning, preventative maintenance and emergency callouts.

Matrix also brings specialist expertise in the design, installation and commissioning of DC & Light Rail traction power systems.

“We’re delighted to announce the acquisition of Matrix Power, another positive step in the growth of our Power division,” said Cowan.

“It’s an exciting period at Ipsum and in the utilities sector generally. The addition of Matrix Power’s expertise will allow us to expand our existing footprint in the northeast and broaden our availability across the north of England and Scotland.”

Neil Guest, CEO at Matrix Power, said: “Today marks a new era in our operations and we are excited for what lies ahead.

“We have been working closely with Ipsum to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible for our customers.”
