editor

East West Rail has announced the appointment of a new railway operations director.

Ben Rule joins the business having worked in the rail industry for more than 25 years.

He brings substantial experience across many high-profile projects and companies.

“We are very excited to welcome Ben to East West Rail,” said David Hughes, CEO.

“Ben will play a key role within the company and his proven track record in the rail industry will be invaluable as the company continues to develop and refine its plans.”

Mott MacDonald, in partnership with WSP (MWJV), was recently appointed principal designer for the East West Rail project.

The scheme will connect Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge, and follows the UK Government committing to deliver the railway in full in its Autumn Budget.

MWJV will drive forward the next development phase to build a new line between Oxford and Cambridge.

As project designer, MWJV will lead planning, managing and monitoring pre-construction activities.

Former transport secretary Louise Haigh claimed the project is expected to boost the Oxford-Cambridge economy by £6.7 billion a year by 2050.

Rule will join East West Rail later in 2025.
