Costain has been awarded a multi-million-pound framework over 10 years, to support the construction of nuclear power station, Sizewell C.
The infrastructure solutions company will provide delivery integration, quality control and engineering integration services while the new 3.2GW nuclear facility is being built in Suffolk.
Other areas of provision by Costain include programme management and health and safety, with support from its supply chain.

“A key part of our role will be to help ensure the project leaves a positive legacy, and we look forward to working closely with Sizewell C on a range of social value and employment initiatives that improve lives and provide long-term benefits to local communities.”
In September last year, a new subsidy scheme was announced by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, to make up to £5.5 billion of taxpayer money available to support the development of Sizewell C.
Like Hinkley Point C, Sizewell will have two EPR reactors, generating 3.2GW of electricity.
When operational, it is expected to be one of the largest net zero projects in the UK, whose aim is to provide low-carbon electricity for around six million homes.
The government hopes to see up to 24GW of the UK’s power come from nuclear sources by 2050 – four times its current level.
It is estimated 70 per cent of construction contracts for Sizewell C will go to UK businesses.
