Graham-Bam Healthcare Partnership (GBHP) has been awarded the contract to deliver a £671 million children’s hospital at the Royal Victoria Hospital site in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The announcement follows confirmation from health minister Mike Nesbitt the project has received formal approval, with construction to begin shortly.
The 10-storey, 52,000 sqm facility will provide:
- 155 beds
- 11 theatres
- emergency department
- imaging suite
- full outpatients dept to treat up to 45,000 children annually
Eighty per cent of beds will be in private ensuite rooms, alongside dedicated parent facilities, social spaces and staff areas.
The hospital is expected to take five years to complete, with construction costs valued at £389 million, and will be met through the Department of Health’s capital budget.
Last week, GRAHAM was appointed to deliver the first phase of a major regeneration project in Leeds valued at £100 million.
Jonathan Hall, managing director at GRAHAM, said: “This project is a major step forward for healthcare in Northern Ireland, and we are honoured to be delivering such a critical facility for future generations.
“The new hospital will provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, ensuring the best possible care for children and their families.”
NI first minister Michelle O’Neill said: “Once completed the new hospital will provide our children and young people with access to the very best medical treatment as well as improving their overall experience of hospital care.
“I look forward to work starting on the hospital within the next few days and the significant benefits it will bring to staff and patients.”
