Tilbury Douglas has been appointed main contractor for the £100 million Emergency Department & Critical Care Unit project at Dorset County Hospital.

Once enabling works are finished, main construction work is scheduled to begin in the Spring.

The project was procured through the ProCure22 framework on behalf of Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and is funded by the New Hospital Programme.

Tilbury Douglas will deliver a rooftop helipad, purpose-built units for both major and minor injuries, a mental health facility, an emergency pediatrics area, 24 critical care beds, and an ambulance arrivals and fast assessment area.

The new facilities are scheduled to open in 2027.

“The signing of the contract is an important milestone for this project, which, once completed, will really benefit the local community for generations to come,” said Richard Boeg, MD – building South and South Wales at Tilbury Douglas.

“Our extensive experience and knowledge in the sector, and of the hospital specifically, will enable us to move ahead with this scheme and deliver the first-class facilities required by the Trust.”

Tilbury Douglas was recently appointed to lead the £16 million development of the Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre, in Wiltshire.

The new facility aims to provide local people with an additional primary care service, more same-day urgent care provision, and space to support mobile diagnostic units.

It is expected to be completed at the end of 2025.
