Balfour Beatty makes three senior hires

Balfour Beatty has announced a trio of appointments to its executive committee group, as sector leads for the company’s core UK growth markets: energy, defence and transportation.

The appointments aim to support the group’s ability to leverage its end-to-end capabilities and further its managed growth strategy.

The first appointment is Steve Tarr, as group sector lead in UK Energy. 

He is set to lead Balfour Beatty’s UK energy market opportunities spanning hydrogen, carbon capture, new nuclear, nuclear fusion, Small Modular Reactors and offshore wind as well as strengthening the UK’s electricity grid. 

Tarr will also lead Balfour’s Power Transmission & Distribution, Rail and Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick businesses as Divisional CEO. 

Nick Crossfield has been appointed group sector lead for UK Defence.

Crossfield will have overall responsibility for the group’s evolving market spanning multiple customer interfaces such as Rolls Royce and BAE Systems. 

He will continue to lead Balfour’s Regional Scotland, Regional Buildings, Regional Civils, Balfour Beatty Living Places, Balfour Beatty Homes and Asset & Technology Solutions businesses as Divisional CEO.

Finally, Phil Clifton has been appointed group sector lead for UK Transport.

Excluding HS2, Clifton will build on the firm’s core expertise across major Highways and Rail and harness the re-emerging medium to long term opportunities in the aviation market. 

As divisional CEO of Balfour Beatty’s Major Projects, Highways and Ground Engineering businesses, he will join the group Executive Committee.
