Story Energy (Scotland) will be headed up by managing director Alan Boyle, who brings more than 30 years of experience to the role as a chartered engineer.

The new energy division, designed to deliver civil engineering solutions across Scotland, currently has 30 staff, which it plans to grow by more than 100 new roles over the next five years.

The move is a response to growing demand for sustainable infrastructure and energy services, including renewable energy schemes, nuclear infrastructure and hydro projects, said Story.

One of Story Energy’s main focuses will be transmission upgrades as part of Scotland’s Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) programmes, working with SP Energy Networks (SPEN) and SSEN through their framework contractors.

“Our investment in this sector is over a 10+ year horizon, and we are in this for the long haul,” said Boyle.

“With a focus on safety, sustainability, and quality, we will deliver efficient, best-value solutions for our customers while developing a high-performing team that thrives in Scotland’s buoyant energy sector.

“By taking a collaborative, customer-first approach and empowering our team to be the best they can be, I believe we can make this vision a reality.”

The launch coincides with the opening of a new office in Perth, with another expected to open in Inverness in the next 12-18 months.

Since it was founded in 2014, Story Scotland has delivered more than 500 projects, including the Ravenscraig railway bridge and Invercoe Bridge replacement, and now employs more than 230 people.

It now hopes to bring £30 million of civil engineering capacity to the energy market.

John MacArthur, managing director of Story Scotland, added: “Story Energy (Scotland) is open for business and ready to partner with customers and supply chain partners who share our commitment to the country’s net-zero journey.

“By remaining nimble and responsive to market needs, we can ensure that our energy solutions deliver both innovation and value.

“The work we are doing now will support the decarbonisation of Scotland’s grid and drive lasting change for the better.”
