Industrial services specialist, KAEFER UK & Ireland, has secured a four-year contract to provide critical services to the Sellafield site including asset care, maintenance, and minor projects.

KAEFER will supply access systems as well as asbestos and insulation support under the Access Services and Insulation framework – which replaces the Sellafield Industrial Services Framework.

The access services element includes design, manufacture, installation, and deployment of scaffolding, powered access systems, roped access, rigging, cranes, and others.

Services under the asbestos and insulation element include removal and replacement of thermal insulation including asbestos containing materials and lagging.

Social value

Jarrow-headquartered KAEFER will also deliver a range of social value commitments in west Cumbria during the lifetime of the framework.

This includes £40,000 of educational equipment for students with special educational needs and construction skills training to attract new talent to the industry.

The award is a continuation of a long-term partnership between KAEFER and Sellafield Limited.

“We’re honoured to be awarded this critical contract and to support Sellafield Limited in its vital work,” said Chris Foulkes, KAEFER UK & Ireland CEO.

“Our team is committed to delivering high-quality services to help maintain safety standards and support the decommissioning programme.”

In November last year, Sellafield promoted interim CEO, Euan Hutton, to the permanent position of chief executive officer of the company.

Hutton had been interim chief exec at Sellafield since July 2023, graduating first from site director almost three years ago to chief nuclear officer after that.

Prior to that, he held senior positions within the nuclear sector for more than a decade, and a management role at Serco before that.
