VolkerHighways has been awarded a Highway Maintenance Core Services contract by West Sussex County Council.

The contract has an estimated combined annual revenue and capital spend of £16.5 million per annum and will begin on 1 April for seven years, with a possible extension of seven further years.
VolkerHighways will be responsible for planned, responsive and emergency highway maintenance and improvement activities across the West Sussex region.
Works will include structures, footway and winter maintenance, patching, resurfacing, verge, signs and marking maintenance.
As part of its social value contract, VolkerHighways will speak with young people to inspire future construction professionals, as well as aid local charitable organisations and provide other community outreach.
“VolkerHighways is excited to bring innovative solutions, local job opportunities, and long-term benefits to the county, reinforcing our mission in making lasting differences in the community,” said Peter Walsh, managing director for VolkerHighways.
In October last year VolkerWessels UK delivered a significant increase in turnover and profit, supported by a strong pipeline of work and healthy balance sheet.
Revenue for the year ended 31 December 2023 was £1.4 billion, a marked increase on the £1.3 billion achieved in the previous financial period, generating a pre-tax profit of £38.6 million (FY2022: £37.7 million).
This was in addition to a forward secured order book value of more than £1.3 billion, compared to £1.7 billion the year prior.
Then, in November 2024, VolkerFitzpatrick began a more than £100 million M27 Junction 10 upgrade on behalf of Hampshire County Council.
The project aims to underpin the creation of 6,000 new homes, community amenities and job opportunities in the region.
