Winners named for £500m NHS decarbonisation framework

The winners of the £500 million NHS Shared Business Services Decarbonisation Framework have been announced.

The new Decarbonisation of Estates framework agreement aims to help the NHS become the world’s first net zero national health service, and will run for four years. 

It allows appointed businesses to tender for works that will help NHS Trusts and other public sector organisations improve the energy efficiency and environmental sustainability of their buildings and estates.

Work covered under the agreement includes:

  • Internal and external wall insulation
  • Ground and air source heat pumps
  • Electric heating solutions
  • Photovoltaic systems
  • Ventilation systems and lighting works

Other traditional works include window and door replacement and solutions to tackle damp and mould in domestic properties.

The framework is divided into two lots:

  • Lot 1 – Decarbonisation of non-domestic / public buildings 
  • Lot 2 – Decarbonisation of domestic properties

Willmott Dixon secured a position on Lot 1, which covers several regions including North of England, Midlands, London and South East, South West, and Wales.

Director of frameworks at Willmott Dixon, Chris Farr, said: “Energy efficiency and estate improvements are at the top of the agenda in the healthcare sector, and we are well positioned to use our experience and expertise to make a material difference to net-zero ambitions.”

Head of decarbonisation at Willmott Dixon, Kelly Crews, said: “Decarbonisation and the journey to net-zero are areas of increasing importance, particularly as we head closer to 2030 commitments.

“his experience allows us to offer practical support to customers, from securing funding to solution development and delivery, as they navigate their decarbonisation goals.”

According to the firm’s half year results, 69 per cent of Willmott Dixon’s turnover came via long-term frameworks, while 55 per cent was with repeat customers.

“The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has confirmed funding for the next wave of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

“The new Decarbonisation of Estates Framework Agreement will support the delivery of the NHS’s ambition in ‘Delivering a Net Zero Health Service’ and respond to the profound and growing threat to health posed by climate change.”

The NHS aims to be net zero by 2040.
