Ian Lawrence has stepped down as managing director after spending eight years in the role and has been succeeded by Will Newman.

Lawrence has been with the business for 36 years and will remain a board director for both Briggs & Forrester Group and the Engineering Services arm, assisting the management transition.

He will also continue to oversee the marketing, quality, and sustainability departments for the group.

Newman started his career with the business as a technical trainee in 2002, progressing to the position of project manager.

After a four-year absence, he returned to the company in 2017 and has overseen the growth of the South East as regional managing director into an £80 million turnover area.

Lawrence said: “As everyone knows, the industry has faced challenging trading conditions during the last few years, but it is pleasing that the business is thriving with a record order book of good quality work.

“It is therefore the ideal time to implement the next phase of our succession plan and hand over the reigns to Will.

“I have no doubt that under Will’s direction the business will continue to move from strength to strength and I very much look forward to supporting Will and the board during this period.”

In December 2024, facilities management business, BGIS, announced the acquisition of Building Services Maintenance (BSM), a division of Briggs & Forrester Group, for an undisclosed sum.

BSM’s expertise includes mobile services, HVAC, combustion, and specialist electrical services.

Around 100 BSM engineers will now join the BGIS FM business, whose head office is in Ontario, Canada.
