Laing O’Rourke has announced the appointment of a new managing director for its Australia business.

Mark Dimmock (LinkedIn).

Mark Dimmock has now been confirmed in the role on a permanent basis, after serving as acting MD of the contractor’s Australian arm for the past 12 months.

Rebecca Hanley will continue her work as group director strategic programmes, focusing on Laing O’Rourke’s future growth strategies across both the Australian and European businesses.

As the new MD, Dimmock will lead the Australia Executive Committee (AEC) and represent the Hub on the Group Executive Committee.

Dimmock, who joined Laing O’Rourke in 2015, is a civil engineer who has delivered projects across Australia, Asia, Africa, the UK, and the US.

Prior to taking on the role of Laing O’Rourke’s acting Australian MD in 2023, he focused on business development in his position as director – clients and markets.

Dimmock said: “It’s an honour to be appointed as managing director of the Australian business on a permanent basis.

“Laing O’Rourke is well known across the industry for its strong culture and for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

“I’m looking forward to leading the business during a time when both the sector and the community can benefit from our expertise in modern methods of construction, and innovation in how infrastructure projects are designed, procured, and delivered.”

Group CEO, Cathal O’Rourke, said: “Mark’s passion for our team, our clients and the industry has been evident in his leadership of Laing O’Rourke over the past twelve months.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with him and the wider Australian Executive Committee as we continue to deliver certainty for our clients and contribute to a sector which is ready for fresh thinking and transformational change.”
