Queen’s University Belfast has awarded the company a £39 million construction contract for two buildings next to Belfast City Hospital, as part of the new iREACH Health centre.

IREACH Health is a £64 million integrated clinical research innovation centre spanning 8,500 sqm, led by the university.

Planning permission for the facility was granted in March, with the main construction work due to start soon.

It is hoped the centre will provide significant health, social, and economic benefits for Northern Ireland, making clinical trials more effective, efficient, and interconnected.

“Our team is committed to delivering a state-of-the-art space that matches the ambitious goals of Queen’s and its partners,” said Gary Holmes, regional MD – GRAHAM Building North.

“With our team currently delivering Belfast’s first-ever Passivhaus-certified student accommodation on Dublin Road on behalf of Queen’s, we have a long-standing relationship with the University that we look forward to building on.”

Orla Carew, Queen’s BRCD Estates Programme Manager; Kevin McNaull, Director at Turner and Townsend; David Quinn, Executive Director of the Belfast Region City Deal at Queen’s; Cormac Maguire, iREACH Health Estates Manager; Gary Holmes, Regional Managing Director -Graham Building North; Professor Judy Bradley, Director of iREACH Health.

The project is being developed in partnership with Belfast Health and Social Care (HSC) Trust and the HSC Research & Development Division.

It is funded by the Northern Ireland Executive and UK Government through the Belfast Region City Deal, and part-funded by Queen’s University Belfast.

Partners estimate iREACH Health could provide more than 1,000 permanent jobs and £750 million+ additional GDP for the region.

iREACH plans to be operating from the new facilities by 2026, accommodating up to 360 staff.

This new construction contract for GRAHAM follows a £33 million PBSA started in Glasgow last month as well as the Detail Design and Build contract for the first phase of the Cardiff Crossrail project, valued at £100 million.
