United Utilities has named 30 construction firms picked to deliver the ‘largest proposed investment in water and wastewater infrastructure across the North West for more than a century’.
Twenty civils-based subject matter experts and 10 mechanical and electrical (M&E) specialists within the region have been chosen by the water company to work on its more than £500 million minor works framework.
Partners will be tasked with delivering mostly smaller, county-based schemes including building solutions for United Utilities’ Better Rivers programme, improving process treatment facilities, supporting plans for standardisation across the network, and installing storm overflow solutions.

United Utilities is currently awaiting full approval for the framework from industry regulator Ofwat.
“I’m incredibly pleased to have companies with local bases on board, bringing with them a wealth of regional experience to help us deliver quickly for customers in each of our five counties,” said Jane Simpson, capital delivery director at United Utilities.
“We’ll work collaboratively with these partners with a shared vision for the North West, which includes setting up apprenticeships and skills academies as part of our long-term growth plans.”
United Utilities has also chosen 72 partners as it gears up for its 2025-30 business plans.
It also recently announced 13 new partners for a further two frameworks as it prepares for asset management period eight (AMP8).
