Saint-Gobain acquires construction chemicals firm Kilwaughter

The French multinational construction materials manufacturer Saint-Gobain has acquired construction chemicals firm Kilwaughter, to strengthen its offering in the UK and Ireland.

Kilwaughter operates well-established and recognised brands including K Rend (supplying façade mortars including renders, mortars, external coatings) and K Systems – a solution for external wall insulation..

The firm has generated revenues of around £50 million in the year to April 2024 and will be consolidated into the Northern Europe Region.

It operates a manufacturing facility and limestone quarry near Larne in Northern Ireland, employing around 200 people with three distribution centres in the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and England.

The transaction aims to further strengthen Saint-Gobain’s offering in the UK and Ireland in light and sustainable construction.

In June, Saint-Gobain agreed to acquire construction chemical firm Fosroc, for £813 million, marking Saint-Gobain’s 36th acquisition since 2021.

Paris-based Saint-Gobain completed €47.9 billion in sales in 2023, with 160,000 employees, locations in 76 countries.

The acquisition is in line with Saint-Gobain’s strategic plan, “Grow & Impact”, which aims to strengthen the Group’s leadership and accelerate its growth by enriching its range of solutions for light and sustainable construction.
