Multiplex appointed to £450m St John’s Wood Square job

Multiplex has been appointed to deliver the shell and core for the £450 million St John’s Wood Square development in Westminster.

The 5.5-acre development will see the transformation of the former St John’s Wood Barracks previously occupied by the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, along with properties at Queen’s Terrace.

The residential development comprises 179 new homes, including 11 townhouses, 109 private and 59 affordable apartments, across nine buildings from three to six storeys.

The works include for the sensitive restoration of the Grade II listed Riding School building, preserving the heritage of the site.

Multiplex, which has been working with St John’s Wood Square Development Limited under a pre-construction services agreement (PCSA) since September 2023.

In September, Multiplex secured a PCSA to transform a 35-storey tower in London for property developer Endurance.

The site’s demolition was completed in May 2023, with  basement construction works by McGee’s well advanced.

Shell and core stage of construction is scheduled for December 2026, with the fit-out element to complete by December 2028.

The development is targeting WELL Platinum and BREEAM Excellent certification for the shell and core construction.

In June, Sir George Iacobescu announced his retirement as chairman of the  Canary Wharf Group (CWG) Board, following a 36-year career at the real estate company.
