Morgan Sindall gave a presentation to the Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) members and town councillors before the handover to showcase the completed restoration.

The project, which saw extensive external refurbishment to preserve the building and restore its presence on the high street, was completed five weeks ahead of schedule.

The Grade II listed West Bromwich Town Hall and Library was originally built in 1874-1875 by Alexander and Henman.

The Morgan Sindall team worked hard to ensure that the public will be able to make greater use of the reinvigorated building, while preserving many of the original features.

Appointed by SMBC through the Constructing West Midlands Framework, Morgan Sindall helped generate over £4.5 million in social value.

This figure represents a 66 per cent social return on investment – measured and monetised through Morgan Sindall Group’s Social Value Bank.

Richard Fielding, area director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Midlands, said: “This is a landmark which will play a crucial role in the new Civic Quarter, revitalising the heart of West Bromwich.

“It’s a building that has been restored for the community, by the community, with 50 per cent of the supply chain spend within 20 miles of the project, as well as several initiatives and charitable donations that have taken place throughout. It’s been a joy to be a part of.”

Alan Lunt, executive director of Sandwell Council, said: “The restoration project of West Bromwich Town Hall and Library extends beyond enhancing the physical structure of the building.”

Damian Donnelly, associate director at Constructing West Midlands, added: “The social value delivered in partnership with the local community is outstanding, highlighting the benefits of using a regional framework that retains wealth within the local area that will benefit generations to come.

“This beautifully restored building is something everyone involved can be proud to say they were a part of.”
