Homes England has announced a leadership change, as its chairman and chief executive stand down after leading the government’s housing and regeneration agency for four years.
Chief executive Peter Denton will step down in the new year, while chairman Peter Freeman will handover to his successor once recruitment is completed later next year.
Eamonn Boylan has been announced as the agency’s interim Chief Executive, to join in January, while the government initiates a process to appoint new leadership.
Boylan has 42 years of experience in high-level public sector roles, including being the Deputy chief executive of Manchester City Council and chief executive of stockport council.
The search for a new chairperson will commence next week.
Homes England is currently working toward the Labour government’s goal of delivering 1.5 million homes in the next five years, which housing and planning minister Matthew Pennycook helped outline in his letter to the agency.
In August, deputy prime minister Angela Rayner announced the launch of the new “Homes Accelerator” comprising a team from the Ministry of Housing and Homes England to unlock 300,000 new homes.
Peter Freeman said: “The Agency has a vital role managing many of the government’s interventions to accelerate housing and regeneration across the country by supporting our partners in local government, affordable housing and housebuilding.
“Under Peter Denton’s leadership, despite economic headwinds, the Agency has met its targets and increasingly demonstrated its pivot back to a place-based organisation.”
Peter Denton said: “We have successfully navigated the transition to being a fully-fledged and empowered housing and regeneration Agency delivering strongly, especially in affordable housing, and initiating many catalytic regeneration projects throughout the country.”
Eamonn Boylan, interim chief executive at Homes England, said: “I am ready to help rise to the challenges ahead and deliver on the government’s goal of delivering 1.5 million new homes during this parliament, while also creating more vibrant, thriving communities.
“My primary focus will be to build on the strong foundation laid by Peter Denton —strengthening our partnerships, empowering local leaders, and driving the delivery of housing that makes a real difference to lives.”
