UK Facilities Management (FM) company, Mitie Group, has been awarded a new FM contract with Great Western Railway (GWR).
The four-year contract will cover facilities management, maintenance, and new installations across the GWR estate, which runs more than 1,997 km.
It includes engineering maintenance work at more than 200 stations and six depots from London to Penzance, including South Wales, the West Country, and the Cotswolds.
A team of 26 workers have transferred to Mitie, to deliver a range of engineering services.
Mitie consultants have also made site visits and identified opportunities for energy reduction, it said.
Mitie has developed a bespoke engineering plan led by an experienced Critical Environment and Technical Assurance (CETA) team to ensure the stations remain fully functional and compliant with safety standards.
“The station is the first stop in any passenger’s journey and we’re proud to be maintaining some of the most iconic stations in the UK from Paddington to Penzance,” said Dan Guest, managing director, Technical Services, Mitie.
“Our colleagues, from engineers to ESG experts, will work together to help GWR deliver sustainable passenger journeys.”
Stephen Carpenter, head of property asset management, GWR, added: “Behind every train service and platform departure is a dedicated team who help ensure our stations operate efficiently, safely and as sustainably as possible.
“This new contract continues that work while providing the best value for money to the taxpayer.”
Mitie recently expanded its security services in Spain through the acquisition of Grupo Visegurity for £9.2 million.
Mitie said at the time, in a highly fragmented FM market, where participants are predominantly single service, the acquisition of Visegurity, alongside Biservicus in September 2023, represents a strategic expansion of its security capabilities.
