Sellafield has promoted interim CEO, Euan Hutton, to the permanent position of chief executive officer of the company.
Hutton has been interim chief exec at Sellafield since July last year, graduating first from site director almost three years ago to chief nuclear officer after that.
Prior to that, he held senior positions within the nuclear sector for more than a decade, and a management role at Serco before that.
Hutton said: “Leading Sellafield Ltd this last 16 months and getting to work with teams of people who I will always argue are the very best in nuclear, has been a career highlight. It hasn’t been without its challenges, but I continue to be proud of our business and our people.
“I was quoted in Sellafield’s coverage of the announcement today saying that we are entering what will be Sellafield’s most exciting chapter yet, and I really do believe that. We’ve got challenges ahead, without question, but also so many opportunities to deliver our mission and support national priorities.
“I’m excited for what is to come, but for now want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me and our work at Sellafield in my time as CEO so far. Here’s to the next chapter.”
Sellafield chairman, Chris Train, added: “I am pleased to announce that, with support from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), UK Government and Sellafield Ltd Board, I have today appointed Euan Hutton permanently to the role of Sellafield Ltd CEO.
“Euan has been interim CEO since July last year, and has demonstrated his integrity and expertise, meeting challenges head on. Anyone who knows Euan will know that he has the deepest respect for the people of Sellafield Ltd and the communities around us.
“I am confident that Euan is the right leader for Sellafield Ltd and that he will continue to deliver what the organisation needs.”
