Procured through the SCAPE framework, Morgan Sindall Construction’s Northern Home Counties business will undertake various expansion works totalling £6 million in improvements.

Brent Council appointed the firm on the projects across three schools in the area, where there is a growing need for SEN facilities as there is throughout the UK.

The council has highlighted several schools where the offer can be expanded:

  • Newman Catholic College –  two new classrooms will be delivered across a new two storey structure
  • Preston Park Primary –  two new classrooms across one single floor
  • St Margaret Clitherow RC Primary –  two new classrooms across one single floor

Each school will also include:

  • New sensory areas
  • New soft landscaping
  • Vegetable gardens
  • Outside play areas

In line with the SCAPE framework, there will be a focus on creating social value for the benefit of the wider community through the construction process and the new structures will use Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) to reduce concrete and carbon.

A significant amount of the build will also be completed offsite, aimed at reducing the environmental impact and time required for the project.

This follows Morgan Sindall’s recent appointment by East Sussex County council to upgrade two community youth facilities as part of a £7 million scheme to create modern, multifunctional spaces to revitalise local youth services in the area.

Emma Curtis, Morgan Sindall Construction’s Northern Home Counties area director, said: “It is great to be working with Brent Council, as we set out to increase the capacity of much needed specialist facilities, that will support the next generation in the borough who require extra support.

“We understand the important role that the learning environment can have, not only practically, but in inspiring children’s learning and giving them the best opportunity at success.”

Councillor Gwen Grahl, cabinet member for children, young people & schools, said: “These new specialist facilities will benefit many children and young people in Brent and ensure their specific education needs are met.

“By providing a safe and secure learning environment built with these needs in mind, we are fulfilling our promise to give all those that will use these new services the best start in life.

“We are also excited to be working with Morgan Sindall again to assist the council in meeting its special educational needs school place requirements.”
