The Akela Group business’ new premises is at Optimum Business Park in Swadlincote, following several contract wins with major housebuilders in the region.

Other areas nearby where the company is currently working include Nuneaton, Coventry, Cheltenham and Leicester.

Sister company, Tala Training Limited, which provides health and safety instruction for the construction sector, has joined Akela at the location in a new training facility.

The company said it is aiming to expand its Derbyshire operation by the end of the year.

Managing director, Will Payne, said: “Growing our UK footprint has been a key commercial goal for Akela Ground Engineering and we are delighted to have put down roots in the Midlands.

“This new hub allows us to continue to expand and manage our operations efficiently, build new relationships and deliver our ground engineering expertise to a wider range of clients.”

In May, Akela Construction strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of Robert Ogg as managing director.

Prior to joining Akela, Ogg spent more than five years at Robertson Group where he was most recently UK national frameworks director.

Formed in 2003 and operating across the Central Belt and Southern Scotland, self-delivery contractor Akela covers earthworks, drainage and SUDS, roads, foundations, concrete works and various other civil engineering services.

Its clients include major housebuilders such as Cala, Persimmon, Cruden, Bellway, AS Homes, and Barratt.

Akela Group is headquartered in Glasgow and is one of the country’s largest multi-disciplinary construction services and civil engineering companies, with more than 300 employees, working across the public and private sector.
