Appointed by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, the project will see the construction of a new leisure centre, health and wellbeing hub in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.

Environmental sustainability will be a core focus of the design and build of the project.

The redevelopment plan was awarded £20 million from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund in 2023.

Graham was selected for the project through Pagabo’s major works framework.

It will be Passivhaus’ only leisure centre on the island of Ireland, and will feature a new eight-lane swimming pool, separate swimming facilities for young children and gym facilities, along with dedicated areas for health and wellness activities.

The outdoor proposals include:

  • Destination playpark and urban sports park
  • 3G sports pitch
  • New cycling, walking and running trails
  • An active waterfront area
  • Improved pedestrian links to Enniskillen town

The proposal was developed following extensive consultation with elected representatives, members of the public, statutory and community organisations and local businesses.

The final design will form part of the Full Business Case for the project, which will be considered by the council later this year, when a decision on the investment for the proposed project to move to construction stage will be made.

Last week, Graham secured a contract with Northern Ireland Water, strengthening its utilities sector orderbook, the latest award following the firm re-securing the NIW MEICA (First Response Contract).

The company reported topping £1 billion in turnover for the second consecutive year, with its latest financial results in July.

Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, councillor John McClaughry, said: “The proposal has been designed to benefit local people and the wider district by creating new opportunities for leisure and recreation, health and wellbeing, tourism, and the local economy, whilst supporting the local environment through sustainable development and construction methods.

“This is another key milestone in the proposed redevelopment of the leisure centre and will see the overall design finalised to enable the Council to make a decision on the overall project.”

Jonathan Hall, managing director for Building South at GRAHAM, said: “This project, which will feature Ireland’s only Passivhaus-certified leisure centre, is pushing the boundaries of environmental sustainability.

It’s an exciting opportunity to create a state-of-the-art facility that will enhance local health, wellness, and recreation, and set a new standard in sustainable development.”
