Infrastructure work will begin later this year to create the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub being delivered by bp Aberdeen Hydrogen Energy Limited, a joint venture between bp and Aberdeen City Council.

The hub will be a scalable green hydrogen production, storage and distribution facility in the port city, powered by renewable energy

The area has been earmarked to create an energy cluster with ambitions of transforming the region into the “Net Zero Capital of Europe” by supporting the development of new, green offshore energies.

Robertson will be undertaking construction activities for the civils works and structural infrastructure at the site.

The design phase is currently underway, with RCE working with design partner Fairhurst, an engineering consultancy in Edinburgh.

RCE will also manage elements of the design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, initial energisation, and handover of the hydrogen production and refuelling station and associated infrastructure.

Professional services company Turner & Townsend has advised on the project since May 2022, providing cost and commercial management, project controls, specialist procurement, and supporting the business case needed to secure the recent financial investment decision (FID).

RCE executive director Martin Kiely said “We are pleased to be part of this innovative project and support bp and Aberdeen City Council’s impressive vision for the city’s future.

“The commitment to inclusive growth that supports the supply chain, skills development and wider community, very much mirrors the Robertson approach.”

Robertson recently completed the new Whitehillock Substation for Siemens Energy and was also responsible for the delivery of the modular energy centre at Aberdeen’s TECA.
