Inside the deal: International property development company Far East Consortium (FEC) has signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with local authorities in the city to enable the regeneration of the site of the former headquarters of Greater Manchester Police in Stretford, Trafford.

JV partners Trafford Council and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) selected the developer following a procurement process which started in 2022.

The agreement will see FEC work with both bodies to bring forward the following build features at the 9.5-acre site:

  • 750 new homes
  • leisure facilities
  • retail spaces
  • a hotel
  • new offices
  • community facilities

The scheme forms part of Trafford Council’s newly adopted Civic Quarter Area Action Plan for Stretford and will provide 25 per cent affordable housing.

Greater Manchester Police relocated to a purpose-built facility in Central Park, Newton Heath, in 2012.

Gavin Taylor, managing director at FEC Manchester, said: “It’s incredibly exciting to be able to formalise our agreement with the council and GMCA so that we can get underway with delivering the new vision for this regionally important project.

“We recognise that the former police station site is in a high-profile location and the local community want to see it brought back into use for the good of the people living here.”

Chinese construction firm CR Construction was recently appointed by Far East Consortium to deliver the next phase of the £4 billion Victoria North regeneration project in the city.

The Hong Kong-headquartered company signed a £210 million contract to build 895 homes in the Red Bank neighbourhood.

The developer is working in a joint venture partnership with Manchester City Council to deliver the project, which will see 15,000 homes built across seven new neighbourhoods in north Manchester over the next two decades.
